Chapter 16: Oh The Places We Will Go! Cath Lab Edition #1

Alex did very well yesterday. It was a long day, we had an arrival time of 11:30, start time of 2:30 and finished just after 4. The left pulmonary artery is very small in one part and they were able to place a stent, which will hopefully allow more blood flow to get to the lungs and help the artery grow. We will have to keep a close eye on things over the next few months. His blood count was low with the pre-op blood work and dropped some during the procedure so he did require a blood transfusion. He had to stay overnight since they placed the stent, but did very well and actually slept 4.5  hours straight! Big success, considering at home he usually wakes up to nurse every 3 hours. Likely just from the anesthesia, but Mommy is hoping this is a new trend! We were discharged this morning and are already home. We have to follow up in 2 weeks and will be sure to keep the blog updated with any new findings.

A big thanks to everyone for all of your thoughts and prayers. We really appreciate all of the support. Go Team Alexander!

Love,

Bobby, Erica, Ben and Alex

Chapter 15: Happy Four Months!

Happy Four Months to our little peanut! We have had a busy month with Erica back to work full time and Bobby at summer camp for two weeks. We also enjoyed introducing Alex to our extended families.

Alex continues to do well. He is growing bigger every day and is now 10lb 1oz at his most recent check up this week. He is smiling, laughing and has even rolled over a few times! We had another ultrasound of his heart last week which still showed the one lung artery smaller, further testing showed the left lung is getting only a very small portion of the blood flow so back to the cath lab we go. We are scheduled for the cath on Monday and they are thinking they will have to place a stent. From the outside he is perfect, but we will continue to have to monitor his heart and the vessels closely to make sure everything is growing and pumping normally.

We were able to enjoy a few days at the beach with Erica's family a few weeks ago. Ben had a great time at the beach, playing with his cousins. Alex mostly enjoyed the beach house and made an appearance on the beach twice! I'm sure next year both boys will be running around!

We appreciate all your good thoughts and prayers for Monday!

Love,
Bobby, Erica, Ben and Alex
